Frequently Asked Questions
What are wood flowers made of?
Wood Flowers are made from a marshy plant called Aeschynomene aspera and is also known as sola or shola. The flowers themselves are created from the plant material that is cut into a thin veneer sheet and formed when wet into delicate designs by skilled artisans in India and Thailand.
How and why did you start with wood flowers?
As you can see above, I carried wood flowers in my own wedding!
What do wood flowers feel like?
Wood Flowers are extremely light! They are often confused as feeling like foam or a very light balsa wood. These flowers are not like hardwood that needs to be carved, rather it is more like a thin shaving that can be pliable when wet and keeps that shape as it dries. I also treat the wood so it is much softer and less brittle than you might think.
How do I take care of my wood flowers?
Wood flowers will not last if you do not care for them properly. I recommend the following:
- Handle with care
- Store away from moisture and avoid humidity
- Display out of direct sunlight to prevent fading
- Dust periodically with a static duster, canned air or blow dryer on the cool setting
- Apply essential oils to the bottom of your flowers, or spray with your favorite scents
- Avoid outdoor display to prevent damage, mold, mildew or fading
